Valio's lactose free products were launched in Finland in 2001 and have proved much more successful than was anticipated, with steady growth of 20% per year. Valio's lactose free range has since blossomed to cover a large variety of products.

Not surprisingly, this success has changed the traditional milk market in Finland. In fact, milk consumption has actually increased, with lactose free products adding to the market, rather than replacing existing products. These innovations have also been recognized internationally and in 2006, at Anuga Food Tech in Cologne, the German Agricultural Society (DLG) granted Valio's Lactose Free Milk technology a golden award.

Following the great success of Valio's lactose free milk drink, Valio's range of lactose free products in Finland has grown to cover nearly all basic dairy products.
